Whom Shall I Fear?

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1

The clear voice of Chris Tomlin singing, Whom Shall I Fear? came ringing through the car speakers.  I smiled happily and turned up the car radio.

“I love this song,” I said contently, turning to my husband, sitting in the driver’s seat.  To my surprise, he was suppressing a giggle.  “What’s so funny?” I asked with a grin, even though I knew exactly what he was going to say.

“You love every song on this station,” he said, and we both laughed at our inside joke.

The week before we had the exact same conversation, only about a different song playing on our local Christian radio station.

I just can’t help it.  I love Christian music.  It amazes me how God puts just the right song on the radio to speak to my heart at the right time.

Well this time was no exception.  God provided the perfect song to encourage me throughout the stressful week ahead.  The trouble started on Monday when my son caught the flu and I came down with laryngitis.  Then to my dismay, I remembered the presentation in Spanish class on Friday.  I have to speak in front of the class, with no voice.

So, did I panic?  The answer is yes.

Who can relate to this feeling?  How often do we let fear and worry take over our lives?

I will be the first to admit, that during difficult times, I sometimes try to solve the problem myself.  When there is a bend in the road I sometimes forget to pray.

Think about this verse.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?  Psalm 27:1

We have to remember that fear and worry is not of God.  He wants us to put our trust in him.  He is the light, salvation and strength of our lives.  We have nothing to fear because he is standing right beside us, guiding us through the darkness.

With that said…back to my story.

Last night while driving home I remembered the words to Whom Shall I Fear.  All the way home I whispered the words and prayed for God’s healing.  To my amazement, by the time I got home, I was able to sing the words.

I’m happy to say that with God’s help and some green tea with honey, my voice is almost back to normal today and my son is over his cold as well.

Praise the Lord!  When we place our worries and fears in God’s hands, amazing things can happen.

Have a blessed week everyone.  J

  2. Thank you Cheryl. Yes He is good. I had been nervous about the project for several months because of my fear of public speaking. However, God took away my fear and helped my voice so I could speak in front of the class. He is an awesome God.
