Stage Fright

And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Colossians 3:17 (NKJV)

Several months ago a good friend and mentor asked me to sing at a women’s missions rally.  I have always loved to sing but hadn’t done so in public for a long time.  I felt apprehensive but accepted the invitation.

When the day of the rally arrived I was a bundle of nerves.  It seemed like everything was against me.  Before even leaving the house that morning I managed to misplace my keys and put a large snag in my pantyhose.  I arrived at the church just in time, feeling disheveled and needing a confidence boost.

A few minutes later I stood on the stage, knees trembling and microphone in hand, waiting for the music to start.  “God, let this be all about you and not about me,” I prayed silently.  As the music started I closed my eyes and the audience melted away, leaving only my savior and I.  As I started to sing, God gave me the confidence I needed and touched my own heart through the words of the song.

I learned an important lesson that day.  Although I felt inadequate in my ability, when I turned it over to God, he used it in a beautiful way.  As a human, I am far from reaching perfection.  However God has still given me abilities and talents he wants me to use for his glory.

In everything God asks us do, we can focus on our savior.  He can do amazing things through us that seem impossible on our own.  He deserves all the glory!

Thank you for reading and may God bless you.  Keep Shining for Him!

  1. Your prayer “God, let this be all about you and not about me" turned the tide, didn't it, Rachel? When my thoughts slip (or fly!) to self, I try to remember the little phrase "to bless and not impress" and that helps me a lot.

  3. Well done, good and faithful servant. He is able, He just needs us to be willing.
