Can God Use Our Weaknesses?

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:9

Does everyone have weaknesses?

Yes, we all have them, including me.  The truth is, we can’t be good at everything, but that’s ok. God never makes mistakes.  He gave us all strengths and weaknesses for a special reason.

Through weakness, God shows His strength.

I love the stories in the Bible of how God used the most unlikely people to do extraordinary things. For example, David was small and not very strong, but God used him to defeat Goliath. Moses was a slow speaker, but God used him to talk to Pharaoh and lead his people out of slavery in Egypt. In their weaknesses, God’s strength came shining through.

He wants to show His strength in our lives as well.

For most of my life I have suffered from anxiety in social situations. As a teenager, it was literally painful to talk to people, which made school a nightmare.  I let my weakness hold me back and sometimes questioned, “Why did God make me this way?”

Looking back, I believe the struggles helped keep me humble. Through every struggle, God is shaping and molding me.  He’s teaching me to not dwell on my weaknesses.

Yes, I’m still nervous talking to people sometimes, but He gives me confidence. When I hand him my weaknesses, He helps me accomplish things I never imagined possible.

His Grace is Sufficient.

Every time I feel too weak to accomplish something God has placed before me, I remember what He said. “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” In every obstacle He helps me overcome; I know it is not by my strength, but His.

Has God ever used a weakness to show his strength through you?  Please feel free to share your story in the comment section below.

  2. Hi Rachel! It's great that you came to see God showing himself through your weakness...not many would see that! I know that I am not the best at choices. I think God wants me to do something, so I forge ahead. But I don't think it through. Oh boy. I have learned a lot that way.
I love your statement "Keep shining for him." That's so encouraging. I'll have to remember that!
    Happy Weekend,

  3. Thank you for commenting, Ceil. I can relate to what you said about making choices. For example, in college, I changed my major three times before deciding on a writing degree. Deep down I think I always knew God wanted me to do something with my writing, but it seemed too scary at the time. :) However, I think even through mistakes, God works all things out for good. I hope you have a blessed weekend.
