3 Ways to be an Encourager

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

I’ve heard it said that laughter is the best medicine. Well, whenever my mom and I get together we have plenty of laughing fests as I like to call them. We have inside jokes like a code that get us both going and before I know it, we’re laughing so hard we start crying.

She’s also an encourager. A few weeks ago when I was feeling discouraged about my writing and some other things, she was there to be a listening ear and offer advice. With a few kind words, I knew everything would be alright.

During difficult times, we can encourage each other – we build each other up just like the verse in 1 Thessalonians talks about. Here are just three ways a person can be an encourager.

1.      Be A good listener: Sometimes we all just need a listening ear. We need to vent and get out our frustrations and troubles. A good listener doesn’t always have to give advice but being there to actively listen to someone having a hard day could make all the difference.

2.      Speak words of life: It’s amazing what one encouraging word can do. Just having one person that believes in you can make a huge difference. *For more about speaking life, click here.

3.      Offer to pray: I’m a big believer that God listens to and answers our prayers. I’ve seen amazing things happen when people gather and pray together. Mathew 18:20 (NKJV) says, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Wow, what an amazing verse to think about, huh?

Challenge: Try to find at least one person a day to encourage. It doesn’t have to be anything big. One kind word,  being a listening ear or saying a quick prayer can go a long way and make a huge difference in someone’s day.

God bless and keep Shining for Him!

  1. I will take up your challenge and find at least one person a day to encourage! It won't be so difficult as several people I know are struggling! Thank you for this wonderful reminder.
