I'm honored to have author, Brooke Williams as a guest on my blog today. She is currently having a blog tour for her new novella, Wrong Place, Right Time and I had the privilege of reviewing it.

My thoughts on the book...

Wrong Place, Right Time is a light hearted and fun love story that kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. It was short and sweet, only taking me a few days to read. I loved the main character, Kate and the humor that she brought to the story. I also enjoyed the suspense, wondering which man she would choose because it kept you guessing until the last chapter. I’m hoping that Brooke will write a sequel, as I would love to find out what happens with these characters next!



Thoughts on Faith and Writing

My faith dictates my entire life so it only makes sense that it would also help me as an author and inspire what I do. I find that sometimes, it bleeds over more than others. When I wrote “God in the Kitchen” a few years back, it was all based around the question: What if God showed up in the kitchen? What would you say? The story fell out from that question on. I have written several specifically Christian novels such as “God in the Kitchen” and “Taxi Delivery.” I also have elements of faith in my thriller novel “Beyond the Bars,” which involves spiritual warfare and good vs. evil to the core. Even in “Someone Always Loved You” it is evident what God can do in people’s lives.

As for “Wrong Place, Right Time,” this story is not an overtly Christian story, but it is a light-hearted, clean romance. It is something that I would not be ashamed to have anyone read, Christian or otherwise. And I think my faith fed it as well. I don’t write overly physical scenes between characters, for example, because of my faith. Those types of things are special and not something I would share with the masses, even though the characters are fictional! And the idea that you can show up in the wrong place, and still have it end up being the right time is more than a coincidence in my eyes if you know what I mean!

My writing is inspired by many different things. First, I simple love to write. Once I have an idea, I sit down and it’s hard to stop it. I get inspiration from a number of places, depending on the story. “Someone Always Loved You” was inspired by the idea that people could hear and have thoughts when they are in a coma. Since my grandmother was in a coma on two occasions, the story stems from her. “God in the Kitchen” was inspired by a sermon my pastor at the time gave in church in which she asked “what would you say if God showed up in your kitchen?” Got a whole book out of that inspiration! “Wrong Place, Right Time” was inspired by an agent I met at a writing conference who challenged me to try writing romance. “Get your foot in the door with romance and gain an audience and then you can write whatever you want.” I did what she said and I found success in romance. However, I also found that clean, romantic comedy might just be where I belong!

 

Different people inspire me as well as occupations and just life observations. In “Wrong Place, Right Time,” my main character is a TV traffic reporter. I did the very job she does for a whole 5 months. I was inspired by how bad I was at it and wrote my character in a similar slant. It’s hard to pinpoint just one thing that inspires me because inspiration is everywhere and what inspires me depends on the book, the character, and even the line I’m writing at that moment! But no matter what my current work in progress may be, rest assured that if I’m writing, I’m happy! And heavily inspired! I never write unless I can NOT get an idea out of my head!

Book Summary

Wrong Place, Right Time is a humorous, light romance about TV traffic reporter, Kate Covington. After admitting she is in love with her best friend, Brian, Kate barges into a Las Vegas wedding chapel to stop him from getting married. When the bride storms out, Kate see that she interrupted the wrong wedding. The groom, Chad Leida, who needs to marry before turning 30 in order to inherit his family fortune, has an intriguing offer for Kate. Marry him and spend a year as his wife for a million dollars. Kate, who is greatly in debt and believes her friend has already married considers the offer.

Once Kate makes her spontaneous decision, her life is on the fast track and the real adventure begins. Caught between two men, she begins to realize that though she turned up in the Wrong Place, she might have arrived just at the Right Time.

About the Author

 

Brooke Williams is an award-winning author and freelance writer. She has written hundreds of articles as well as several novels, including Someone Always Loved You and Beyond the Bars. Brooke has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morningside College, with a double major in Mass Communications and Religious Studies. She has twelve years of experience in radio broadcasting, both behind the scenes and on-air. She was also a television traffic reporter for a brief time. Brooke and her husband Sean married in 2002 and have two daughters, Kaelyn and Sadie.
