Shining Stories

If you have recently started following my blog you may be wondering the meaning behind the title, Learning to Shine.  What does it mean to “Shine” anyway?

In November 2012 during a Christian writers’ conference I was encouraged by a workshop speaker to find a verse for my life.  The next morning, God touched my heart by giving me a verse from Mathew 5:14, which says, “You are the Light of the world.  A city set on a hill cannot be hidden."  The verse touched my heart because I had spent most of my life hiding, afraid I wasn’t good enough.  From my early teen years and on, I had been talking down to myself.

However, through the verse God revealed that I didn’t have to hide.  He loved me and wanted to use me to reflect his light.  He called me to shine.

As children of the King, we are called to reflect his light.  We don’t have to hide, but are called to shine!  No matter what has happened in the past, God sees us as his beautiful children and longs to have a relationship with us.  He has given us all gifts to use for his glory.  This is how we can shine for Him.

Here is a challenge.  What gifts has God given You?  Is he calling you to shine for him?  I always love to hear from readers so please feel free to share your own shining stories or a story about someone who inspires you in the comments section below.

The rest of my story is featured in my first blog post called, "No More Hiding."
