Valentine's Countdown: Day 13

What is your idea of the perfect date?

For me, often the most inexpensive dates with my husband have been my favorite. The location doesn’t matter as much as the person I am with.

My husband and I first met at church in the young adult Sunday school group. We were both too shy to speak to each other at first. However, after a few months, one of my friends mentioned he wanted to ask me out on a lunch date after church to get to know me better. Imagine my disappointment when I came down with the flu, laryngitis and a bad eye infection on the morning he was going to ask me out! He was sweet enough to give me a call to see how I was doing and promised we would reschedule lunch for a later date.

When I recovered, I couldn’t wait for another free weekend. Instead, I ask him out on a date, since our first attempt didn’t work out. It was an unseasonably warm day in February, so I packed a picnic lunch for two and we had our first date at the park on his lunch break from work. Afterwards, we walked the trail around the park together, talking and laughing about everything under the sun. To my amazement, we were no longer shy around each other. It was a simple date, but my absolute favorite. We were engaged eight months later.

  4. I met my husband at Bible College. We will be married 37 years years in August. Our favorite dates are also simple ones. My favorite one took place at the river in Port Huron with a bucket of grilled chicken from KFC. We watched the ships going through.

  5. Such a great story. I knew my husband from our high school but never thought of anything else. One day I missed the bus and asked my friend for a ride, he had an appointment and couldn't take me. So he seen his friends brother and asked if he could take me home. Well I didn't know at time but I lived on one corner and he lived at other end of street. We started talking and he would pick me up in morning. Well after months he decided to ask me out and been together for 33 years.
Thank you for a great opportunity
    Melissa

  6. I really like your story. I met my husband at work. I was the church office manager and he worked in the Counseling Center. I came in for some resource material and there he was with his curly hair and big smile. I thought he was a cutie. He told me later that he'd seen me a week before in the office and had to do a double take because I was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. I believe him since I was his first girlfriend.

  7. You have a very memorable story and I am so happy you shared it. My first date with my husband of 33 years, could have been our last but has ended up being our funny date story. He asked me out to dinner and a Hall & Oates concert. We were both looking forward to it. He made a reservation (special trip to talk to the manager because place didn't actually make reservations) at a mexican restaurant. We needed to get in and out of restaurant at a good time in order to make it to the concert. I was not a very adventurous food person way back then and had an aversion to some green foods. I ordered my meal minus guacomole. You guessed it. When they brought my meal, a very large portion of guacomole was on it. I said there is something green on my plate, get it off. The poor waiter scooped up the guacomole with a spoon and left. Lol. The date ended up being very nice despite the restaurant scene.
